The Dallas Cowboys quarterback drama that dominated the news for much of the 2016 football season is likely soon to be over.

According to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter, Romo plans to leave the NFL altogether to begin a career in broadcasting.

The surprising news comes in the midst of a drama that has lasted several months into the offseason, with fans and media alike trying to predict Cowboys owner Jerry Jones’ next move with two quality NFL quarterbacks on his roster and space to play just one.

Schefter reports that the Cowboys are finally planning to release Romo on Tuesday after holding him through the first stretch of the offseason, but he says that decision isn’t likely to sway Romo’s choice to leave the game.

Romo, who suffered a back injury that forced him to miss most of the 2016 season, was considered a top choice to play quarterback for the Denver Broncos or Houston Texans this season.

Schefter reports that most networks which cover the NFL are showing interest in the Cowboys quarterback, with CBS believed to be in the lead.

Dak Prescott now has the Cowboys job all on his own coming off a Rookie of the Year performance that helped Dallas to the NFC East title and a 13-3 record last season.
