Owls grab big lead early, hold on for 52-42 win over Furman

Kennesaw State came out on a mission early and walked away with a 52-42 win against Furman on Saturday in Greenville, S.C.

The Owls (3-1) jumped to a 35-0 lead and went into halftime with a 49-14 advantage, thanks to big performances from quarterback Chandler Burks and wide receiver Justin Sumpter. Burks had three rushing touchdowns in the first half, and the duo connected on a 46-yard touchdown pass with seven seconds remaining before the break to push KSU’s edge back to 35.

In the second half, Furman (0-5) clawed back, and with 5:30 remaining, cut the visitors’ lead to 10. But that was as close as the Paladins would get thanks to KSU working the clock and a late fumble by Furman.
