Not that there was much mystery about it, but Georgia coach Mark Richt confirmed Friday that Todd Gurley “will be moving on” after this season.

Nobody expected the 6-foot-1, 226-pound junior tailback to be back anyway. But there has never been a official word from the Bulldogs about Gurley’s future since he was lost for the season to an ACL injury against Auburn on Nov. 15.

In the meantime, Gurley is still very much a part of the 2014 team. That is in evidence this week as Gurley accompanied the team to Charlotte and is getting treatment and rehabilitation from the UGA training staff. He had an ACL reconstruction earlier this month.

“He’s rehabbing well,” Richt said. “Ron (Courson, director of sports medicine) thinks it’s going beautifully. His spirits are great. I wouldn’t be shocked to see him doing a lot of things for the scouts before the draft. I think he’ll be a very high draft pick.”

Gurley was highly productive in the short time he was on the field this season. After missing four games due to an NCAA suspension for accepting improper benefits, he averaged 151.8 yards rushing in six games and scored 10 touchdowns.

Gurley’s presence with the team is different path than the one quarterback Aaron Murray took after his career had a similar early ending last season. Murray rehabbed privately away from the team and did not join them for the Gator Bowl except to watch the game from the sidelines.
