Ryan Harrow will be eligible to play for Georgia State’s basketball team this fall.
Harrow transferred from Kentucky to Georgia State this year to be closer to his ailing father, who suffered a stroke before the 2012-13 season. Typically, transfers must sit out a year per NCAA rules. But the organization often grants exemptions in situations similar to Harrow’s. The NCAA cleared him to play on Wednesday.
“That’s huge,” Georgia State coach Ron Hunter said. “That’s absolutely huge for us.”
Harrow, a 6-2 guard, averaged 9.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists for the Wildcats last year.
He was a five star recruit at Walton High School in Marietta, Georgia.
Harrow will have two years of eligibility remaining. He originally signed with N.C. State, but transferred to Kentucky after a coaching chance occurred in Raleigh.
Hunter said that Harrow’s mom screamed with joy after he called to tell her the news.
“That was the best I’ve ever heard his family,” Hunter said. “His dad will be able to watch all of the home games. He couldn’t do that before.”
Hunter said he will use Devonta White and Harrow interchangably at the point guard, which is something he has done with White in the past.
