Georgia Tech kicker Justin Moore was dismissed from the team for a violation of team rules. It was not a legal matter.

The action followed an encouraging spring practice for Moore, who had inconsistent results in the past two seasons for the Yellow Jackets. He set single-season school and ACC records in 2011 for most point-after tries and most successful PAT’s without a miss (both 56), but was 11-for-17 on field goals. In 2012, he lost the placekicking job to David Scully and attempted just four field goals, making two.

In the spring, he earned praise from Johnson and special-teams coordinator David Walkosky for his consistency and focus.

Moore’s departure gives incoming freshman Harrison Butker a greater opportunity at the kicking job. Butker, from Westminster, will compete with Scully, who was 4-for-8 last season.
