Georgia has named a new recruiting coordinator and co-special teams coordinators in a coaching staff restructuring announced by head coach Mark Richt on Tuesday.

Running backs coach Bryan McClendon, who was named national recruiter of the year by 247Sports and Scout, was named recruiting coordinator by the Bulldogs. Also, Richt divided special teams coordination duties into offensive and defensive roles. Tight ends coach John Lilly will oversee Georgia’s offensive special teams (kickoff return, punt return, extra point/field goal). Defensive special teams will be headed by new inside linebackers coach Mike Ekeler (kickoff, punt block, and extra point/field goal block).

“This restructuring, I believe, will give us the best chance to win from a recruiting and special teams standpoint,” Richt said in a news release emailed by the school. “Our recruiting effort will be strengthened and our special teams will be improved as well.”

Georgia’s special teams were among the worst in the SEC this past season.
