Georgia Tech has a record-breaker in wide receiver Malachi Carter, who gave coaches his letter of intent Wednesday on the first day of the early signing period. As a senior at Mountain View High, Carter broke the Gwinnett County single-season record for receiving yardage, no small feat considering the legion of talented players that have flowed out of the county.
The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Carter, recruited by defensive coordinator Ted Roof, finished the season with 1,348 yards on 72 receptions (which was tied for second in county history). He was rated a three-star prospect by 247 Sports composite.
“He’s highly, highly competitive,” Roof said on the team’s online broadcast. “Takes every aspect of his game very seriously, from running routes to catching the ball to blocking to competing for the ball when it’s in the air. He takes it extremely seriously, and he’s one heck of a competitor.”
With Ricky Jeune finishing up his career this season and Brad Stewart going into his senior season, there’s room for Carter and fellow wide receiver signee PeJe Harris to play quickly. Coach Paul Johnson said he challenged both players to be ready to compete for playing time when they arrive on campus.
