Lee Greenwood highlights Military Day for UGA
Saturday is Military Appreciation Day at UGA, and the Georgia Bulldogs aren’t fooling around in their recognition of it.
The Bulldogs will have country music star Lee Greenwood as a special guest at the Charleston Southern game at Sanford Stadium and they plan to make good use of him. Greenwood is slated to sing the National Anthem before the game and a special halftime music show is planned around his special talents.
Greenwood is expected to sing his signature recording, God Bless the USA in a performance with UGA’s Redcoat Marching Band. They will also perform America the Beautiful as well as the hymns of each of the service academies. The five-time male vocalist of the year and Grammy winner will also sing Where the Stars & Stripes & the Eagle Fly.
During Greenwood’s performance, approximately 76 Purple Heart recipients from the State of Georgia will line the South Sideline. At every timeout, video and/or photographs of service men and women will scroll on the video board. These photos have been sent in by active and retired service members from all branches of the military.
During a second-quarter timeout, General James Livingston will be honored for receiving the Medal of Honor for valor during the Vietnam War. General Livingston, a native of Towns, is a three-time recipient of the Purple Heart and was presented the Medal of Honor in 1970 by President Richard Nixon.
