Georgia State football coach Trent Miles made a few unofficial titles of assistant coaches on his staff official.

Luke Huard, who has called the plays on offense the previous four seasons, is offensive coordinator. Jeff Jagodzinski, who was offensive coordinator, is taking care of a family situation. There is no timetable on his return. When he returns, he will coach tight ends, which he has been doing since Miles took over before the 2013 season.

Eric Lewis, who coaches cornerbacks, is special teams coordinator. He will oversee the planning for the groups, with various assistant coaches overseeing specific groups.

P.J. Volker, linebackers coach, is recruiting coordinator.

Because Jagodzinski may not be at spring practice, which starts on Thursday, and because defensive line coach Tony Samuel left for UNLV, Miles will be without two members of his coaching staff. He will have two analysts working with the team this spring. NCAA rules allow for nine coaches on the field during practices.

One of the analysts will likely be Rick Minter, who has been hired as defensive line coach but whose hire hasn’t been finalized by human resources. The other will be a senior offensive analyst whom Miles wouldn’t name because the human resources process hasn’t been completed.

Additionally, Liam Smith was promoted to director of player personnel.

The Panthers went 6-7 last season and appeared in their first bowl game.
