Georgia Tech coach Brian Gregory added to a cache of young big men by signing Sylvester Ogbonda, a 6-foot-10 post player from Fort Washington, Md., to a national letter of intent. The signing was announced Thursday.

Upon arrival on campus, Ogbonda will join 6-9 forward Abdoulaye Gueye and 6-10 center Ben Lammers, both about to begin their freshman seasons. Obgonda is rated a three-star prospect. ESPN graded him as the No. 9 prospect in the state of Maryland and the No. 37 center in the country. He attends National Christian Academy.

“Sylvester is a high quality student-athlete who has an extremely bright future,” Gregory said in a statement. “He plays for an outstanding coach in Trevor Brown at National Christian Academy and we believe his best basketball is clearly ahead of him.”

Ogbonda is expected to be Tech’s only signee during the early signing period.
