The Head Ball Coach is headed back to the University of Florida.

Steve Spurrier, who stepped down as South Carolina's coach last season, has been named an ambassador and consultant in the university's athletic department.

Spurrier started at quarterback for the Gators in the 1960s, winning the Heisman Trophy in 1966, and also won 150 games and a national title as the coach from 1990-2001.

"It's a great day for the Gator Nation to be able to welcome Coach Spurrier back home," athletic director Jeremy Foley said in a statement released by the school.

Added Spurrier, "My wife, Jerri, and I are extremely thrilled to be returning home to our alma mater, and to Gainesville where we met on campus over 50 years ago."
