Georgia Tech’s baseball series with Georgia next spring has dates and locations.

The Yellow Jackets will play the Bulldogs in a three-game weekend series Feb. 28 in Athens, Feb. 29 at SunTrust Park and March 1 at Russ Chandler Stadium.

For about 20 years, the series between the archrivals has been played in midweek games over the course of several weeks, which limits both attendance and the competitiveness of the games. In weekend series, teams will pitch their top three starters, and use No. 4 starters or relievers in weekend games.

Tech coach Danny Hall and UGA coach Scott Stricklin, noting the success of other ACC-SEC series that were played on weekends, such as Clemson-South Carolina and Miami-Florida, led the change and put a two-year agreement in place. Keeping the annual game at SunTrust Park, which is a fundraiser for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, was a must, Hall told the AJC in March.

It will be the first time that Tech and Georgia have faced each other in a three-game regular-season series since 1959, when both teams were in the SEC.

For Tech, the UGA series will follow another significant weekend series against another power-conference opponent, Ohio State. Tech will play the Buckeyes, who have made the NCAA tournament three of the past four seasons, Feb. 21-23 at Russ Chandler.

Ohio State is coached by Greg Beals, who played for Hall at Kent State.
