About Kansas

Record: 2-0

Last time played: A litany of mistakes and uninspired play doomed Georgia Tech to a 28-25 loss last year in Lawrence, Kan. Tech came into the game ranked 15th in the country, but gave up 141 rushing yards, committed nine penalties and tackled poorly, allowing the Jayhawks to snap an eight-game losing streak.

Kansas on offense: The Jayhawks have averaged 277 rushing yards in their first two games. Running back James Sims, who dinged the Yellow Jackets for 101 yards in his college debut last year, is the first option. Quarterback Jordan Webb has completed 70 percent of his passes in two games.

Kansas on defense: FCS team McNeese State and Northern Illinois of the MAC have taken the Jayhawks to task.  They completed 78.4 percent of their passes and averaged 6.4 yards per play. Further, starting defensive tackle John Williams suffered a season-ending torn ACL Saturday.

Kansas on special teams: D.J. Beshears was named the Big 12 special teams player of the week with 197 yards on seven kick returns, including a 51-yarder. The Jayhawks' punt team ranks first in the Big 12 with a net average of 46.3 yards.

What you should know: After finishing last in the Big 12 in scoring and scoring defense last season, Kansas received the fewest votes in the conference preseason media poll.
