Georgia Tech has hired away a recruiting staffer from one of its ACC rivals – Virginia Tech. Wednesday, Thomas Guerry, Virginia Tech’s director of centralized recruiting tweeted both a farewell to Virginia Tech after five years and, an hour later, the announcement of his hire at Georgia Tech.

On his updated Twitter page, Guerry identified himself as Associate Director of Player Personnel for Georgia Tech. It’s the same title that had been held by former Georgia Tech quarterback Tevin Washington, who left his position earlier in the summer. Guerry will work under general manager Patrick Suddes.

Guerry’s hire likely won’t be announced by the athletic department for a few days as his paperwork is processed.

According to his bio on the Virginia Tech website, Guerry was tasked with enhancing recruiting efforts. That included improving digital media and graphic design presence as well as planning official and unofficial visits and monitoring day-to-day operations in the recruiting department.

Guerry came to Virginia Tech from Georgia, where he worked for four years, first in operations and then in recruiting.
