When the Ramblin' Wreck rolls into Miami's Sun Life Stadium on New Year's Eve it will mark Georgia Tech's seventh Orange Bowl appearance - it's second since 1967. The Jackets are making their 43rd bowl appearance and are 23-19 all-time in bowl games. Tech is 3-3 in their previous six trips to South Florida:

Georgia Tech 21, Missouri 7, Jan. 1, 1940: A packed Orange Bowl watched as the Yellow Jackets defeated Big Six champion Missouri, 21-7, behind the heroics of Johnny Bosch, who out-ran and out-passed the Tigers' All-American “Passin” Paul Christman. Tech finished its season with an 8-2 record and a No. 16 ranking.

Tulsa 26, Georgia Tech 12, Jan. 1, 1945 – Jackets quarterback Frank Broyles set an Orange Bowl record with 304 passing yards, but it was not enough for Georgia Tech as Tulsa avenged a 20-18 loss in the 1944 Sugar Bowl with a 26-12 win over the Yellow Jackets.

Georgia Tech 20, Kansas 14, Jan. 1, 1948: The Jackets were a two-touchdown favorite over the Kansas Jayhawks, but were tied 7-7 at halftime. Tech then scored two third-quarter TDs to lead 20-7. In the fourth quarter Kansas' Ray Evans scored his second touchdown of the game to narrow the Yellow Jacket's lead to 20-14. With 37 seconds left in the game, Kansas drove to the Tech 1-yard line before Lynn McNutt fumbled on a quarterback sneak, and Tech's Rollo Phillips recovered to seal the victory.

Georgia Tech 17, Baylor 14, Jan. 1, 1952: Undefeated Georgia Tech entered the game as co-champion of the Southeastern Conference. while Baylor was the Southwest Conference's runner-up. The Bears dominated the first half and led 14-7 at halftime on a hot, muggy day in Miami. Tech broke a 14-14 tie late in the fourth quarter on a 22-yard field goal by second-team quarterback Franklin "Pepper" Rodgers and held on for the win.

Florida 27, Georgia Tech 12, Jan. 2, 1967: Tech trailed 7-6 and was at the Florida six yard line in the third quarter when Bobby Downs intercepted a pass from the Yellow Jackets' Kim King (18). On the next play, Florida halfback Larry Smith took a handoff from Heisman winner Steve Spurrier and went 94 yards to put the Gators ahead for good as they rolled over eighth-ranked Georgia Tech, 27-12. The 1967 Orange Bowl was Bobby Dodd's last appearance as head coach at Georgia Tech.

Iowa 24, Georgia Tech 14, Jan. 5, 2010: In a game that featured one of the most dynamic offenses in the nation against one of the country’s stingiest defenses, it was the No. 10 Iowa Hawkeyes solving No. 9 Georgia Tech’s option attack for a 24-14 win - on the coldest game in the 76-year history of the football classic. Tech totaled just nine first downs and 155 yards offense, both season lows.
