On the first day of the basketball signing period Wednesday, Georgia Tech received a letter of intent from Curtis Haywood, a shooting guard from Mustang, Okla. Another letter from the other prospect who committed to Tech and coach Josh Pastner, forward Moses Wright from Raleigh, N.C., was expected to arrive. Wright’s coach at Enloe High, Patrick Paye, said in a text message Wednesday evening that Wright was signing the letter of intent at the time and would fax it in shortly.
Haywood, a 6-foot-4 perimeter shooter who has spent this academic year at Brewster Academy, a prep school in New Hampshire. Haywood committed to Tech in December. Tulsa and Illinois State were among other schools that made scholarship offers to him. ESPN grades him as a four-star prospect and the No. 4 senior in Oklahoma. At Brewster, Haywood’s team won the national prep school championship.
Wright is an under-the-radar prospect whose recruiting picked up only in his senior season of high school. A 6-foot-8 forward with a 7-foot-2 wingspan, Wright was also recruited by Kansas State and Charlotte.
Tech entered this signing period with six open scholarships, with Haywood taking one and Wright slotted to take another, leaving four.
