With Georgia Tech’s capital campaign going into its concluding year, a donor has stepped forward with a $10 million challenge grant in hopes of reaching the $70 million goal for the renovation of the Edge Center.

The donor, who has remained anonymous, will match gifts and commitments up to $10 million on a dollar-for-dollar basis, with a deadline of June 30, 2020. As funding for that project is at $50 million, meeting the $10 million goal would push funding to $70 million and enable design and construction to move forward.

The renovation of the Edge Center, Tech’s athletics headquarters, is the centerpiece of the $125 million campaign led by athletic director Todd Stansbury.

The building houses offices for coaches and staff as well as services for athletes such as sports medicine, dining and academics. The renovation would also add space for existing offices and accommodate more teams, staff and programs. The design also includes a rooftop plaza that would look onto Bobby Dodd Stadium from its northeast corner. Not insignificantly, the new look of the center would be expected to be impactful for prospects on recruiting visits.

The campaign, named Athletics Initiative 2020, was launched in January 2018 with a goal of being completed by December 2020. The campaign had raised $111 million – 89 percent of its goal –as of the end of November, with some targets having been exceeded and others lacking.
