Georgia Tech cornerback Dameon Williams has entered the transfer portal, a person familiar with the situation confirmed Wednesday evening. While entering the portal does not preclude an athlete from staying, Williams has also left the team, according to a team spokesman.

Williams is the first Yellow Jackets player known to have submitted his name into the transfer database following the end of spring practice Friday.

The Athletic reported Williams’ entrance into the portal earlier Wednesday.

Williams was far down the depth chart last season, his redshirt freshman season. Judging at least from the portions of spring practice open to media, he did not appear to be among the top five at cornerback.

Tech coach Geoff Collins is in need of player attrition, though, as there are 87 team members (not including Williams) scheduled to be on scholarship for the 2019-20 academic year. The maximum permitted is 85.
