Georgia Tech begins fall football practice

Georgia Tech opened fall football practice on Wednesday in 90 degree heat.

Georgia Tech opened fall football practice in 90 degree heat on Wednesday. They open the season in less than a month - on Thursday, Sept. 3 at home against Western Carolina.

Quarterback Synjyn Days redshirted as a freshman last season and begins fall camp as the backup to Tevin Washington (left). The QBs ran drills in the indoor facility on the first day of practice.

Georgia Tech quarterback Tevin Washington, who played in eight games last season as the backup to Josh Nesbitt, enters camps as the starter. He rushed for about 500 yards and threw for around 400 last year. He was the Jackets No. 4 rusher.

Synjyn Days, an option quarterback from Powder Springs, had a big T Day game, rushing for more than 100 yards and accounting for two TDs.

Redshirt sophomore David Sims, a backup QB last season, will work at both quarterback and B-back this year.

Freshman Demond Smith, from Monroe Area High School, will work at both quarterback and defensive back this season.

Tech football players take advantage of the shade offered by one of the open giant doors of the new indoor practice facility. The new building also held its first practice on Wednesday.

Tech players were forced to deal with the heat -- in the high 90s -- for the first day of practice. Linebacker Brandon Watts gets some water.
