Georgia Tech has the 19th member of its recruiting class for 2018. Rome High defensive tackle Ja’Quon Griffin announced his commitment to the Yellow Jackets Monday night.

Griffin had received an offer from Tech last week and made his official visit to Tech this past weekend. A two-time all-state defensive tackle, Griffin helped lead the Wolves to back-to-back state championships as a junior and senior.

He can sign with Tech on Wednesday, national signing day.

Griffin had been committed to LSU but withdrew his commitment in December. He chose Tech over Tulane and Appalachian State. Tech’s recruitment was led by offensive line coach Ron West.

He’ll play for new defensive coordinator Nate Woody, who had been recruiting him at Appalachian State before he was hired at Tech to replace Ted Roof. Griffin, listed 6-foot-0 and 265 pounds, is a 3-star prospect (247 Sports composite) and the No. 108 player in the state of Georgia.

“I think Quon’s thing has always been that his film is as good as anybody in the country,” Rome coach John Reid said last week. “If Quon was too inches taller, three inches taller – he’s 6-foot, if he was 6-foot-3 – he would have his pick of any school.”
