The identity of players chosen to attend SEC Media Days is always a bit of a parlor game: Sometimes it’s the seniors, chosen as a reward for their service and representation of their leadership. Sometimes it’s the team’s best player. On some occasions, it’s even both.

This year Georgia is going with three seniors, each of whom has a chance to be very good this season.

Receiver Malcolm Mitchell was previously announced as one of Georgia’s attendees, as part of the SEC’s push to publicize players with a unique off-field story. In Mitchell’s case, it’s his reading hobby, including his joining a women’s book club.

Mitchell, if he stays healthy, is also an All-SEC candidate, so that also helps.

Georgia’s other two attendees, according to the school, will be outside linebacker Jordan Jenkins and left tackle John Theus. Both of those selections make sense as well: Jenkins comes into the season with 32 career starts and was named preseason first-team All-SEC by Phil Steele. Theus was honorable mention All-SEC as a junior, and has started 35 games in his career.

SEC Media Days begins next Monday in Hoover, Ala., and runs through Thursday. Georgia’s appearance, headlined by head coach Mark Richt and the above three players, is on the final day.

This year the team’s most high-profile player is tailback Nick Chubb, but it’s rare for teams to bring a sophomore to the event.

Last year Georgia took two seniors (receiver Chris Conley and defensive lineman Mike Thornton) as well as junior Todd Gurley, the team’s star tailback.
