Georgia's Sugar Bowl history since 1969

Arkansas QB Bill Montgomery led his team to a 16-2 upset of fourth-ranked Georgia in the 1969 Sugar Bowl. The Bulldogs, winners of the SEC, came into the game with an 8-0-2 record.

Georgia QB Mike Cavan fumbles after being hit in the backfield. It was one of several key offensive mistakes by the Bulldogs, who were held without a touchdown for the only time that season.

Georgia played in only one Sugar Bowl during the 1970s, falling in the 1977 game to top-ranked Pitt 27-3. But the Dogs were No. 1 themselves when they next played in New Orleans. In the 1981 game, Herschel Walker (34) goes up and over the Notre Dame "D" for the Dogs' first TD.
