Fields, fishing accidents and favorite plays? Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm spoke about all of the above and more in a recent exclusive interview with the AJC before the Atlanta Sports Awards ceremony.

Q. How has it been practicing alongside (freshman quarterback) Justin Fields?

A. It's good. He's a great football player. Right now, we're just both trying to become the best player we can and make the team the best we can make it.

Q. How has the transition been for you from freshman newcomer to a sophomore more in a leadership role?

A. It's a slight change. Things don't go by quite as fast. You really kind of understand what's going on and when it's going on. Really just trying to kind of look at guys, pick some guys up and challenge some guys. (I'm) trying to take on this leadership role the best way I can.

Q. What has the team’s attitude been like since the national-championship game?

A. It's been good. Guys are understanding what got us there, obviously a lot of hard work, so guys are really kind of coming in and working as hard as we can. (We're) really excited about getting there again.

Q. What was it like celebrating after games with Migos (a famous rap group)? I know they’re huge UGA fans.

A. It was cool. Some of the guys on the team really enjoyed it. It was a fun experience. You know those guys, you listen to them, and they're right there with you. It was pretty cool.

Q. What are your thoughts on your brother committing to Auburn?

A. It is a little house divided. It's awesome, super exciting — the opportunity for my brother to play football at the next level. (I'm) so happy for him and can't wait to see what life has for him in store.

Q. How is your leg since the fishing accident?

A. My leg is perfectly fine. I promise. I've been running all week, and there's nothing wrong.

Q. You didn’t try to play it up a little bit? Maybe limp a little?

A. No, but I probably should have.

Q. What is the focus heading into the early games on the schedule?

A. I haven't even gotten there yet. I'm still on what I've got to do tomorrow. I don't know. We'll get there when we get there. Right now, we're just trying to focus on the summer and get better any way we can and throw the ball around a lot.

Q. There’s talk that UGA might be on upset alert against South Carolina. What do you think?

A. They can do what they want to do. We're just worried about us. As long as we come in and play our best football, I think it will probably work out for us. Right now we're just kind of focused on us and what we control right now, and that's getting better every day during the summer.

Q. What was your favorite play from last season?

A. There's a lot of them. Probably the first one that comes to mind is the flea flicker at the beginning at the Mississippi State game. It was just fun. It's exciting, and throwing a touchdown on the first play of the game on offense was just awesome.
