Georgia Bulldogs: When they were pups

Before the became Dogs, they were just pups running around on a high school football field. Check out these current Georgia football players in their younger years.

Every Bulldog, even Uga IV, needed time to grow.

University of Miami quarterback Mark Richt did some growing after this 1982 loss to Bobby Bowden's Seminoles. Click on to see how some other Dogs matured.

QB Matthew Stafford, Highland Park (Texas): A product of the same program that produced Bobby Layne and Doak Walker, Stafford led the Scots to their first state championship in 48 seasons.

RB Knowshon Moreno, Middletown South (N.J.): Set the Garden State record with 128 touchdowns and is only the second New Jersey player to finish with more than 6,000 rushing yards.

CB Asher Allen, Tucker: A three-sport star in high school, Allen demonstrated his explosiveness at an early age. In the second round of the 2004 playoffs, he took a reverse, avoided two Northside Whitfield defenders and sprinted for a 66-yard touchdown.

RB Caleb King, Greater Atlanta Christian: Was the nation's top-rated running back, before breaking his leg during his senior season.

LB Rennie Curran (right), Brookwood: Finished his career as Gwinnett County's all-time leading tackler, including this one on Caleb King.

S Reshad Jones, Booker T. Washington: The 2005 AJC AAAA Defensive Player of the Year, Jones was a three-way star for coach Rodney Cofield. As a senior, he picked off six passes, caught eight touchdown passes and returned six kicks for scores.

LB Akeem Dent (right), Douglass: An AJC 2006 first-team all-area selection, Dent turned down Urban Meyer and the Gators to come to Athens.

DE Jeremy Lomax, Lovejoy: Led the Wildcats to their most successful run in school history, including an 11-1 season as a senior in 2003.

Roderick Battle, Douglass: A three-sport star, Battle excelled on the gridiron and was named the 2004 AJC AAAAA Defensive Player of the Year.

FB Brannan Southerland, Greater Atlanta Christian: A tremendous athlete, Southerland finished second in the state in the 110 hurdles as a senior.

DE Kiante Tripp (34), Westlake: Was rated the best two-way lineman in the country by Scout.com, and wasn't too shabby on the basketball court either.

OL Clint Boling (right, No. 52), Chattahoochee: A member of the 2006 AJC AAAAA First Team Offense, Boling was a two-way star for the Cougars.

TE Tripp Chandler, Woodstock: Became first freshman at Woodstock to earn varsity letters in two sports (football and basketball).

QB Joe Cox (left) and WR Mohamed Massaquoi, Independence (N.C.) High School: Cox was a two-time Charlotte Observer Offensive Player of the Year. His favorite target was Massaquoi, who was a three-time all-state selection by the Associated Press.
