Georgia Bulldogs 2008 Football Schedule

A look at the Bulldogs' football schedule and their opponents.

Aug. 30, Sanford Stadium: Under first-year head coach Chris Hatcher, Georgia Southern (7-4, 4-3 Southern Conference) improved its record on the arm and legs of senior quarterback Jayson Foster, winner of the Walter Payton Award as the top offensive player in the Football Championship Subdivision. The season opener marks the fourth meeting between the in-state squads, and first since 2004.

Sept. 6, Sanford Stadium: Central Michigan (8-6, 6-1 Mid-American Conference) won their second consecutive conference title. The Chippewas were led by quarterback Dan LeFevour (pictured), MAC offensive player of the year, and freshman receiver/kick returner Antonio Brown, who caught a school-record 102 passes for 1,003 yards and six touchdowns.

Sept. 13, Columbia, S.C.: Georgia fans love to hate on Steve Spurrier -- with good reason. The stinging loss to South Carolina (6-6, 3-5 SEC) put an early dash on the Bulldogs' title hopes and elevated the "evil genius' " record against Georgia. Quarterback Chris Smelley will get the first chance to replace departed starter Blake Mitchell, but with Spurrier, nothing is for sure.

Sept. 20, Tempe, Ariz.: Georgia will face a tough challenge early in Arizona State (10-3, 7-2 PAC-10). In coach Dennis Erickson's first season the Sun Devils flourished and quarterback Rudy Carpenter excelled -- passing for 3,202 yards and 25 touchdowns as a junior.

Sept. 27, Sanford Stadium: Nick Saban's return to the SEC was less than stellar (7-6, 4-4 SEC) last season. The Tide will venture into Georgia territory twice in a month -- opening the season at the Dome vs. Clemson and the Dogs welcome QB John Parker Wilson four weeks later in Athens.

Oct. 11, Sanford Stadium: Much was made of Georgia's loss to Tennessee (10-4, 6-2 SEC), which dashed the Dogs' SEC title hopes. The Volunteers are losing quarterback Erik Ainge and may lose leading rusher Arian Foster to the NFL. And more so, coach Phillip Fulmer will spend the winter reassembling his coaching staff. Can you say advantage Dogs?

Oct. 18, Sanford Stadium: Vanderbilt coach Bobby Johnson opted to stay in Nashville over going to Duke. Quarterback Mackenzi Adams will lead the Commodores (5-7, 2-6 SEC), who stunned the Bulldogs in 2006.

Oct. 25, Baton Rouge, La.: The defending national champion is in rebuilding mode. Quarterback prospects Jarrett Lee and Andrew Hatch are inexperienced. Receivers Brandon LaFell (1) and Demetrius Byrd give the offense some respect. Yet coach Les Miles has overhauled the LSU (12-2, 6-2 SEC) roster, which was sacked by departures -- starting with All-American defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey.

Nov. 1, Jacksonville, Fla.: Florida quarterback Tim Tebow gets a running mate in Southern Cal transfer Emmanuel Moody, but possible losses of key receivers may force "superman" to carry more than pass. It was Florida's (9-4, 5-3 SEC) young defense that had no answer for the Dogs last season, which may make Georgia the toast of the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party -- again.

Nov. 8, Lexington, Ky.: Kentucky (8-5, 3-5 SEC) is coming off back-to-back bowl wins for the first time since Bear Bryant was their coach in 1952. The Wildcats will sorely miss QB Andre Woodson, who broke Tim Couch and Jared Lorenzen's Kentucky touchdown records.

Nov. 15, Auburn, Ala.: Auburn (9-4, 5-3) will be running a spread offense under new offensive coordinator Tony Franklin. Replacing quarterback Brandon Cox will most likely be sophomore Kodi Burns (pictured). The Tigers' transformation will take place on the other side of the ball as well with the departure of defensive coordinator Will Muschamp.

Nov. 29, Sanford Stadium: New Yellow Jackets head coach Paul Johnson will try to redeem seven straight loses to Georgia with his triple-option spread offense as Knowshon Moreno and the Bulldogs close out the regular season schedule with their annual in-state rival Tech (7-6, 4-4 Atlantic Coast Conference).
