As feared, Georgia Tech forward Marcus Georges-Hunt will miss the ACC tournament. After leaving Tuesday’s loss to North Carolina early in the game with a foot injury, x-rays taken Wednesday revealed that he broke the fifth metatarsal bone in his right foot.

It is a tough blow for the Jackets’ chances to advance past the first round of the ACC tournament, which begins Tuesday in Greensboro, N.C. Georges-Hunt is the team’s leading scorer (13.6 points per game) and was in his best form of the season at the time of the injury. Going into the North Carolina game, he had averaged 16.5 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists over the previous 11 games. Coach Brian Gregory said he deserved All-ACC consideration.

“Chemistry-wise, you’ve got to think about him being the leading scorer, and he goes down, you’ve got to have somebody else to step up,” center Demarco Cox said after the game Tuesday, an 81-49 loss to the Tar Heels. “I would say it hurts your team pretty bad when you lose your leading scorer.”

With its regular season complete, Tech is locked into playing in one of the first two first-round games on Tuesday as one of the bottom four seeds, along with Boston College, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest. Pairings have yet to be determined.
