The Georgia Bulldogs struck first in the second quarter of Monday’s National Championship at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, scoring a field goal after a 14-play, 55-yard drive that lasted seven minutes and 40 seconds.

Bulldogs kicker Rodrigo Blankenship hit a 41-yarder 46 seconds into the second quarter after a scoreless opening quarter.

The big play of the drive came on a third-and-20 from the Georgia 48. The Bulldogs decided to play it safe with a halfback draw to Sony Michel. The senior running back broke a tackle in the backfield, bounced the football to the outside and tip-toed down the right sideline for a 26-yard pickup to keep the drive alive.
