Former Georgia Tech basketball player Glen Rice Jr. has encountered legal trouble again. Rice was arrested and taken to the DeKalb County jail Monday for felony robbery and aggravated battery. He was also charged with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.
The arrest was first reported by TMZ.
Last October, he was charged with reckless conduct and possessions of marijuana (240 grams) after he was shot in the leg in an altercation that began at a downtown Atlanta restaurant co-founded by rapper/actor T.I. He was dismissed from Tech in 2012 by then-coach Brian Gregory after a charge of permitting unlawful operation of a vehicle, which stemmed from a shooting incident outside an Atlanta nightclub.
Rice, 25, had taken steps towards stabilizing his life following his dismissal in 2012. He played for one season in the D-League, leading his team to the league championship. He was then drafted in the second round of the 2013 NBA draft by Philadelphia, which traded his rights to Washington.
"It takes that sometimes to snap them out of that wrong road they're taking," Glen Rice Sr., the former NBA star, told the AJC prior to the 2013 draft. "Now that it did happen, you thank God that, O.K., he was able to realize that."
He played 16 games for Washington in the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons. He was released by Washington in Jan. 2015 and played the remainder of the season in the D-League before playing for Houston’s summer league team.
