Former Georgia Tech B-back Dedrick Mills, now playing for a Kansas junior college after he was dismissed from Tech in August 2017, committed to Nebraska. Mills announced his decision Tuesday on his Twitter account.
Mills is in his second season at Garden City Community College in Kansas after he played only two games last season because of a broken collarbone. Mills ended up at Garden City after he was dismissed from the team at Tech for three violations of the athletic department's substance-abuse policy, ending a promising career with the Yellow Jackets.
Mills received a scholarship offer from Nebraska in the spring and visited the school for the Cornhuskers’ spring game. He said in August that he had also received interest from Auburn, Kentucky and Arkansas, which were waiting to see how he performed this season, but considered Nebraska his most likely destination.
Prior to the start of the season, Mills said he intended to graduate from Garden City in December, which would enable him to transfer to his new school in time to take part in spring practice. While he has played three college seasons – one at Tech and two at Garden City – he can apply for an extra season of eligibility through a medical-hardship waiver, which would give him two seasons at Nebraska.
His season at Garden City has started tremendously. In the team’s opener Saturday, Mills ran for 267 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries.
