Hutson Mason is getting a start on his coaching career, while not quite giving up on his NFL hopes.

The former Georgia quarterback, who started every game for the Bulldogs last season, is joining Colquitt County High School as quarterbacks coach, he confirmed on Monday night.

“I’ll still train down there and wait and pray for a call from the league,” Mason said.

Mason had a tryout with the Washington Redskins this spring, but was released last month.

Mason is from Marietta, but had a connection to Colquitt County head coach Rush Propst: Chip Lindsey, who coached Mason at Lassiter High School, was an assistant for Propst at Hoover (Ala.) High School. (Lindsey is now the offensive coordinator at Southern Miss.)

Mason hopes to become a college coach someday. He said he had “a couple” offers to be a graduate assistant this year, but didn’t think it was “a good fit at this moment.”
