Five football players are transferring out of Georgia State’s program as the roster overhaul continues under new coach Trent Miles.
Leaving are tight end Alex Smith, who transferred in from Kentucky, linebacker Kyle Vorster, kicker Matt Ehasz, cornerback Chris Jenkins and wide receiver Mark Young.
The decisions won’t likely affect the depth chart.
Smith, a former four-star recruit from the Cincinnati area, couldn’t break into the starting lineup last year and was inconsistent in this year’s spring practices. However, the Panthers are already thin at tight end with just Bo Pearson and Joel Ruiz (whose eligibility hasn’t been decided after transferring from Presbyterian) to likely compete for the starting job.
Ehasz’s decision seems to lock in Wil Lutz as the starting kicker. Ehasz, a walk-on was also inconsistent in practices and games. He missed three of his five field-goal attempts last year and four of his five attempts in 2011.
Jenkins (5-9, 180) and Vorster (5-10,193) were undersized for their positions on the FBS level. Young has the size (6-5, 190) but couldn’t earn playing time.
