Georgia will retain Auburn as its permanent Western Division opponent and the Bulldogs picked up Arkansas from the West as well in the new 2014 SEC football schedule, which was finally released by the league office in Birmingham on Wednesday.

The Bulldogs will once again open next season against Clemson as the Tigers return to Sanford Stadium on Aug. 30. Then Georgia will have an open date before opening the conference slate against the Gamecocks on Sept. 13 in Columbia.

UGA was able to preserve its late October/early November spots against Florida and Auburn. The Bulldogs will again play the Gators in Jacksonville on Nov. 1 and they get Auburn at home — after two straight years on The Plains — in Athens on Nov. 15.

The format remained 6-1-1, where teams play the other six teams from their division, one permanent from the other division and one rotating. Georgia picks up Arkansas from the West in 2014 and retains Auburn as its permanent opponent.

What will happen in 2015 and beyond is still up for debate, according to UGA Athletic Director Greg McGarity. Conference leadership is still in ongoing discussions about that. However, McGarity did say he does not expect the SEC to adopt a nine-game conference schedule.
