The Georgia basketball team is losing one would-be junior, but keeping another player in that class.

Center Osahen Iduwe, who played sparingly in two years at Georgia, is transferring, the team announced on Monday.

Iduwe played in just 18 games last season, averaging 2.7 minutes and 0.5 points per game. He played in just 11 games as a freshman. He said in a statement released by the team that “I believe it is in my best interest to find a new place to continue my college career.”

A 6-foot-10, 245-pound native of Nigeria, Iduwe never developed as the team hoped when it gave him a scholarship coming out of a military academy two years ago.

“Osahen and I talked late last week, and he has decided to transfer,” head coach Mark Fox said in a statement. “We want Osahen to find the greatest fit for him both academically and as a player. I understand and support his decision and wish him nothing but the best. He has been a terrific teammate and will be missed.”

Meanwhile, the team will also announce that Juwan Parker, as expected, has received his medical redshirt. That means the small forward from Oklahoma will have two years of eligibility going forward.

Parker missed all of last year with an Achilles injury, which also caused him to miss half of his sophomore season. Parker was a starter prior to the injury.

Parker, who graduated last December, had the option to transfer elsewhere and play immediately, but decided to stick it out at Georgia, where he has a chance to return to a key role.

Iduwe’s departure opens up a scholarship for the team, which was at the scholarship limit of 13. But there aren’t any indications that Georgia is close to adding another player for the 2016-17 school year.
