Kennesaw State coach Brian Bohannon said he was proud of the defensive energy and dedication Saturday that his Owls showed in their 58-7 victory over Edward Waters.
Bohannon said the defense improved playing the Tigers, but they’re “nowhere near” where they need to be.
One of the more dedicated players Saturday was junior defensive back Derrick Farrow. Farrow was named Big South Defensive Player of the Week for his performance Saturday.
Bohannon said Farrow made “the play of the game” when he ran after a breakaway run to force a fumble and recovery when the Owls were up 58-0.
“Everything (Farrow) ever does every day is just what he did on that play,” Bohannon said. “For him, that was the next rep.”
Farrow transferred from East Central Community College where he totaled 110 tackles, one interception and one fumble recovery in two seasons.
Bohannon said Farrow’s success and dedication against the Tigers on Saturday demonstrated the goals of the rest of the season.
“If you had to sum up what our football team should be like, it would be that play,” Bohannon said. “And it wasn’t just Derrick. If you look at it, there were about five other (players) spinning around the ball.”
“Everything (Farrow) ever does every day is just what he did on that play,” Bohannon said. “For him, that was the next rep.”
In addition to earning player-of-the week nomination, Farrow was awarded the Owls’ game balls on defense and special teams.
“He’s setting the bar in the right spot for playing with great effort,” Bohannon said. “The way Derrick played, I think we’re going to bring him over and let him play offense, too.”
