One of the last players to join the recruiting class, defensive back Jaylen Jackson comes to Georgia Tech after flipping from Cincinnati in the final days before Wednesday. He gave Tech coaches his letter of intent on the opening day of the inaugural signing period.
“Just tremendous ball skills and body control and awareness,” said A-backs coach Lamar Owens, who was Jackson’s lead recruiter, on the team’s online broadcast.
Jackson (6-foot-0, 195 pounds) played defensive back, slot receiver and punter for Brunswick, and served the team as a two-time captain. He also plays on the school’s basketball team. He was named the region player of the year in 2017 and is a three-star prospect (247 Sports composite). Tech has recruited him as an athlete, meaning he could end up at a variety of positions.
“When you talk to coaches down there near Brunswick and Savannah, they all think that Jaylen was probably, if not the best, one of the top players in that area,” coach Paul Johnson said. “He can do a lot of things.”
Johnson noted that Jackson can return kicks, which was a priority for coaches in this year’s class after the team’s difficulties returning kicks and punts this season.
