Georgia coach Mark Richt announced the team’s captains for Saturday’s game against South Carolina.
They are linebacker Amarlo Herrera and noseguard Mike Thornton for defense, center David Andrews for offense and tailback Todd Gurley for special teams. The players were chosen via a vote by the coaches based on their performances in the Bulldogs’ game against Clemson.
Gurley, who had a 100-yard kickoff return in the opener, was particularly happy to have received the nod for special teams.
“That’s cool,” he said with a laugh. “I’m pretty sure David or Hutson is going to be the (offensive) captain every week, so I guess I got to get my captain spots somewhere else.”
Gurley did add that he would be returning kickoffs again this Saturday.
