Perfect timing

Mitch Trubisky made the most of his one play.

North Carolina’s backup quarterback replaced starter Marquise Williams when Williams had to leave the game for one play after his helmet came off.

Facing a third-and-15 from the 16 with 4:05 left in the game against Virginia, Trubisky connected with T.J. Thorpe on a touchdown pass for the winning score in a 28-27 victory.

“He went out there, he was calm, he knew what he was running, he executed the play, and threw a touchdown,” UNC coach Larry Fedora said of Trubisky. “He never blinked. It was good for him and all the work he has done.”

Doing it all

Tyler Murphy is one of only a few FBS quarterbacks to lead their teams in rushing and passing.

He added to both totals in Boston College’s 23-17 victory over Wake Forest by rushing for 77 yards and throwing for 165 yards as the Eagles won for the second time in three games.

Murphy, who transferred from Florida, also threw a 37-yard scoring pass as the Eagles built a 23-3 lead.

It was only the second game outside of Massachusetts for Boston College this season. The Eagles played their first five games inside their home state before heading to Raleigh, N.C., on Oct. 11.

They also will be on the road next week, when they play at Virginia Tech.

Numbers game

19 Yards rushing by Wake Forest in its loss to Boston College. The Demon Deacons entered ranked last in the FBS in rushing at 36.7 yards per game. Wake Forest had minus-1 yard of offense at one point in the second quarter.

60 Yards that North Carolina receiver Mack Hollins averaged on two catches in the Tar Heels' 28-27 win over Virginia. He finished with two touchdowns on catches of 63 and 57 yards. He also had a 91-yard touchdown catch in a win last season.

He said it

“We coached poorly at the end and played poorly. We did not recognize things that we should have. It is disappointing to have an opportunity to win a game down the stretch and to have all the miscues that occurred.” — Virginia coach Mike London after North Carolina’s 28-27 victory over the Cavaliers

“It’s only a matter of time for Wake Forest. Great days are ahead. I’ve got a lot of respect for them.” — Boston College coach Steve Addazio
