Duke in charge
Duke is the team to beat in the Coastal Division.
Fresh off their victory over Georgia Tech, the Blue Devils took charge of the division race with its 20-13 victory over Virginia, becoming bowl eligible in the process.
“It’s a big ol’ ‘W’,” coach David Cutcliffe told the media afterward. “A capital ‘W’.”
Duke (6-1, 2-1 ACC) won the division last year during one of the best seasons in program history, when they won 10 games for the first time in program history and played in the ACC Championship game and the Chick-fil-A Bowl.
Dyer dominates
Remember Michael Dyer?
Remember the freshman running back who helped lead Auburn to the 2010 BCS championship, transferred to Arkansas State and then to Louisville?
Injuries have hampered his production with the Cardinals, but he appeared healthy in Louisville’s 30-18 victory over N.C. State, when he rushed for 173 yards and one touchdown.
Dyer’s total almost tripled his total through Louisville’s first seven games.
He entered the game with only 65 yards this season after rushing for 223 in 2013.
Numbers game
11.4 Yards per carry averaged by Syracuse's Devante McFarlane, who had 114 yards on 10 carries — including an 86-yard run — in a 30-7 victory over Wake Forest
285 Cole Stoudt's passing yards in Clemson's 17-13 victory over Boston College. Stoudt returned to the starting QB job after Deshaun Watson broke a finger on his throwing hand last week.
He said it
“I was asked by television afterwards about being bowl eligible. I hadn’t even thought about it, and that’s as honest as I can be. In my mind it’s a huge ACC win, and I’m totally focused on ACC football, and that’s all I really wanted to think about. It was one of those circumstances that you get in in that every game that you play is going to be bigger as you go forward.” — Cutcliffe
“We said all week this is gonna be a weight-room game. Our squats against their squats. Our mat drills vs. their mat drills.” — Dabo Swinney after Clemson held on to defeat Boston College 17-13.
