Former University of Georgia running back Isaiah Crowell has followed through on a promise to donate his first paycheck to the Dallas Fallen Officer Foundation.
Crowell sent a check for $35,300 check — one-seventeenth of his $600,000 base salary.
Crowell, who plays for the Cleveland Browns and is second in the NFL in rushing yards, told Cleveland.com that “I said I was going to do it and I wanted to follow through.”
He made the promise in July after posting a drawing on Instagram of a hooded man slashing a handcuffed and kneeling police officer's throat following police shootings of black men in Louisiana and Minnesota. The following day, five Dallas police officers were killed by a gunman.
Crowell deleted the photo and apologized. "By posting that picture, I became part of the problem," he said then. "I don't want to be part of the problem, I want to be part of the solution."
Crowell also attended the funeral of one of the police officers killed in Dallas.
Crowell played at Carver Columbis High School and was a top recruit at Georgia. He was named SEC freshman of the year after running for 850 yards but dismissed from the team after being arrested on felony weapons charges.
He's in his third season in the NFL and ran for 120 yards against the Redskins last Sunday.
