Georgia basketball coach Mark Fox was a passenger on a Delta Air Lines flight that barely avoided crashing into another plane during takeoff Wednesday morning.

Fox was flying from Atlanta to Miami to visit a friend.

The incident happened at about 10:30 a.m. when Fox's plane was cleared for departure on Runway 27R, just as another Delta plane crossed the runway as it taxied after landing.

An air traffic controller immediately told Fox's plane to abort the takeoff, the FAA said. The flight crew responded to the instruction with a "high-speed slowdown," according to Delta.

The plane returned to the gate for a maintenance check and refueling. The flight departed for Miami at 11:59 a.m.
