Coaches tee off in Chick-fil-A golf challenge

Georgia Tech football coach Paul Johnson reacts to a birdie putt Tuesday in the Chick-fil-A Bowl Challenge golf tournament.

Johnson tees off on the 10th hole while South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier observes in the background. The event was held at the Great Waters Course of Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, Ga.

Spurrier attempts a birdie putt on the par-8 eighth hole while playing partner and former Gamecocks great Sterling Sharpe watches.

Ex-Georgia Tech basketball player Jon Barry, partnered with Johnson, seems pleased with his drive on No. 9.

Alabama coach Nick Saban checks the yardage before teeing off on No. 8 ....

.... and then watches his shot as it sails toward the green.

Later, the coach of the BCS champion Crimson Tide was unsuccessful - and quite sandy - as he tried to blast a shot out of the bunker on 16.

Some of the other coaches participating in the event included Frank Beamer of Virginia Tech ....

.... Bobby Johnson of Vanderbilt (teeing off at No. 4) ....

.... and Maryland's Ralph Friedgen, a former Georgia Tech assistant.
