How the winning run scored: Ernesto Mejia led off the fourth inning with a homer run before Matt Pagnozzi did the same to open the fifth and that was enough offense to overcome the Tides at Norfolk. The win was just Gwinnett's (37-49) second in nine meetings with the Tides this season and the first in five games at Harbor Park.
At the plate: Mejia's homer, his 21st, came during a 10-for-44 slump. But half of those 10 hits have been home runs.
On the mound: G-Braves starter David Hale (3-3) threw seven shutout innings, allowing five hits and a walk while striking out four. Hale (3-3, 3.75) has allowed three earned runs in his last 23 innings. Reliever Wirfin Obispo worked a shaky ninth, allowing a run on three singles, but still recorded his third save.
Up next for Gwinnett: The G-Braves play the fourth game of a five-game series at Norfolk. Gwinnett's Joe Bisenius (2-0, 3.09) faces Jake Arrieta (5-3, 4.41) at 7:05 p.m. The G-Braves have won just three of their last eight games.
