Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Kevin Pillar is taking the first steps to rectify his actions from May 17's game against the Atlanta Braves.
When the Blue Jays came to SunTrust Park in May, Pillar shouted a gay slur at Braves reliever Jason Motte. Pillar's actions instigated the clearing of both teams' benches and Pillar was suspended for two games after he apologized.
Pillar told ESPN he will donate his forfeited salary from his suspension to two Toronto LQBT organizations to continue his apology to those he offended with his comment.
"It's not lip service," Pillar said, according to ESPN. "It's easy to come out and make your apologies and hope people forget, but I meant what I said when I said hopefully I'll be made an example of... My actions didn't just affect me, they affected this organization as well, and between me and the organization, we're going to do our part."
