A two-week-long online auction of memorabilia from the soon-to-be-imploded Georgia Dome will end Saturday.
Of the 281 items available for bid by fans and collectors at www.gadomesale.com, the one drawing the highest bids is Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan's Georgia Dome locker. The locker, which includes Ryan's name plate, had a current high bid of $6,000 as of Friday morning.
The next priciest item was Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones’ locker, with a current bid of $2,000 as of Friday morning. Several other Falcons players’ lockers from the Dome also are available.
Schneider Industries, an asset liquidation company hired to sell off the contents of the Falcons’ former home, is conducting the online auction.
In addition to player lockers, items available for bids include pieces of artificial turf, end-zone pylons, goal-post wrap-around pole pads, sideline yard markers, banners, framed photographs, posters, NFL headsets and more. Even the restroom signs are available.
The wrap-around pole pads seem to be popular items. As of Friday morning, the current bids were $1,000 for one with an SEC logo on it, $525 for one with a Georgia Dome logo and $360 for one with a Falcons logo.
The Georgia Dome, which opened in 1992 and hosted its final event March 5, is scheduled for implosion Nov. 20. The interior of the building already has been largely demolished. The stadium seats were sold earlier this year, including some to fans for $599 per connected set of two. Video boards, suite furniture and the like were sold by sealed bids.
The Dome was the site of 1,456 events attended by 37.6 million people over the past quarter-century. In addition to Falcons games, the Dome hosted two Super Bowls, three Final Fours, 152 college football games and Olympic basketball and gymnastics, among other events.
