Tiago Splitter is thinking ahead.

The center is out for the season after undergoing surgery on his right hip in February, a procedure that cut short his first season with the Hawks. Splitter is using some of his downtime to explore a possible career following his playing days.

Splitter, a native of Brazil, recently wrote an article on the start of his basketball career and his surgery for Cycle, a media network involving professional athletes. He also intends to attend a program at Syracuse University this summer to educate himself and further try his hand at the journalism profession.

One of Splitter’s biggest disappointments after undergoing the season-ending surgery was the fact that he will miss the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Splitter wrote: “Brazil has been dreaming of this moment for a long time and to have the games in my home country is really special for every Brazilian athlete. It hurts that I can’t play, but my Brazilian brothers in the NBA have been really supportive.”

Splitter will still play a role in the Olympics. He said he has been asked and agreed to serve as a commentator for the Games for Brazilian television.

There is more.

Splitter will serve as a guest commentator on one of the Hawks’ upcoming broadcasts on the Spanish station El Patron 105.3 FM.
