The Hawks and Tiago Splitter are considering several options including surgery for his ailing right hip.
The Hawks shut down Splitter for the six games leading up to the all-star break, including Wednesday’s contest at the Bulls, after he again experienced pain in his hip following a game against the Heat on Jan. 31.
Splitter received a second medical opinion on Monday. The second opinion resulted in several possible methods of treatment. No decision has been made.
“We are still gathering the information and trying to figure out the best course of action,” Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer said Wednesday.
Splitter missed seven games earlier this season with the hip injury. He said it has nagged him since his return but again became an issue following the game against the Heat. Soon after, the Hawks decided to let him rest through the break and examine all courses of action.
Splitter did not accompany the Hawks on their trip to Chicago before the break. The Hawks will not play again until Feb. 19. Splitter has expressed his frustration with the injury and his desire to return to the court as soon as possible. He also missed four games with a calf injury this season.
