The NBA found two incorrect non-calls and one incorrect call in the final two minutes and overtime of the Hawks’ 117-110 loss to the Magic Monday night.
In a pivotal non-call, the league reported that the Magic’s Evan Fournier did not commit an offensive foul after it appeared he knocked the Hawks’ Kent Bazemore to the ground before stepping back to hit a 3-pointer with 31.8 seconds left. The shot gave the Magic a five-point lead, 115-110, and they closed out the game from the free-throw line.
According to the report, Fournier initiated legal contact on the start of his drive with Bazemore and that “the contact is not, by itself, enough to dislodge Bazemore from his legal guarding position.” The play was deemed the correct non-call.
The report cited that the Hawks’ Al Horford should have been cited for an offensive foul while setting a screen on the Magic’s Aaron Gordon with 14 seconds left in regulation. On the possession, Paul Millsap went to the free-throw line and made one of two shots to tie the game at 101-101.
Also, the report found that the Hawks failed to inbound the ball in the allotted five seconds with 1.2 seconds left in regulation with the same score. Once inbounded, a Millsap basket came after the buzzer to end regulation and send the game into overtime.
One incorrect call went against the Hawks in overtime. According to the report, Horford maintained legal guarding position when he was called for a foul by referee Marc Davis on the Magic’s Nikola Vucevic with 2:52 remaining. Vucevic made one of two free throws to put the Magic up 108-102.
The NBA issues a Two Minute Report as an assessment of officiated events that occurred in the final two minutes of games which were within five points at the two-minute mark and during overtime.
