Shelvin Mack broke his own news.

The guard agreed to terms on a contract extension with the Hawks on Friday and shared the news first via social media. “Blessed to have a few more years with the Atlanta Hawks,” Mack tweeted.

Mack, who was a restricted free agent, agreed to a three-year, $7.3 million contract. The first two seasons are guaranteed, and the third is a team option. The contract has not been signed, but there are no major issues.

“It’s a great situation for me,” Mack, 24, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “I’m familiar with all my teammates and with the coaching staff. For once in my career I’m going back to the same team where I am familiar with all the players.”

The Hawks made Mack a qualifying offer in June, a one-year deal worth $1,148,163.

Mack joined the Hawks in February 2013 when he signed two 10-day contracts after stints with the Wizards and 76ers. He then signed a two-year deal and played the final 20 games of the season and averaged 5.2 points and 2.2 assists.

Last season, Mack was the last player to make the Hawks roster out of training camp, as the third point guard. He quickly assumed the backup position behind Jeff Teague.

Mack appeared in 44 regular-season games last season and averaged 7.2 points, 3.6 assists and 2.0 rebounds. He appeared in all seven playoff games where he averaged 8.1 points, 3.6 assists and 1.9 rebounds.

Mack said he is pleased that after having a season as part of the Hawks core he can return and pick up where he left off. He said he has been working this summer with several Hawks players, including Paul Millsap, DeMarre Carroll and Teague.

“You have to find the right situation for you and go with your gut,” Mack said.

Mack’s new deal also drew positive reaction from his teammates.

“Yeah Mack!!!,” Al Horford tweeted.

Carroll also issued a congratulatory tweet.

The 6-foot-3 Mack led Butler to back-to-back NCAA national championship games before he was selected in the second round of the 2011 draft by the Wizards. He bounced around the NBA and the D-League.

He has a home now.

Payne signs contract: The Hawks signed first-round draft pick Adreian Payne to a multiyear rookie contract Friday.

Payne was selected 15th in the draft in June. The 6-foot-10, 245-pound forward played four seasons at Michigan State.

According to the NBA Collective Bargaining Agreement, for his draft position, Payne’s salary will be in a range of 80 to 120 percent of $1,546,100 next season and $1,615,700 in 2015-16 as guaranteed deals. The Hawks have team options for two more seasons. Terms of the contract were not announced.

Payne, 23, averaged 16.4 points and 7.3 rebounds as a senior at Michigan State.

During the recently completed Las Vegas Summer League, Payne averaged 12.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in 29.0 minutes of six games. He shot 37.5 percent (27-of-72) from the field, including 30 percent (9-of-30) from 3-point range.
