Charles Lee has a new home – Milwaukee.

Lee became the first Hawks assistant to join Mike Budenholzer’s staff with the Bucks. Budenholzer left the Hawks after five seasons despite two years remaining on his contract. He was hired by the Bucks earlier this month.

At the time of the hire, Budenholzer bringing his coaching staff with him was called a “top priority” by a person familiar with the situation. The process has begun with the formal hire of Lee.

Lee was in Milwaukee, along with shooting coach Ben Sullivan, when Budenholzer was introduced and the two joined him at a Brewers game. Several other assistants could also join Budenholzer, including lead assistant Darvin Ham.

Lee, who joined the Hawks in 2014, coached the Hawks’ entry in the Las Vegas Summer League last year. He followed other Hawks assistants Taylor Jenkins and Ham. Lee earned a spot at the front of the bench last season. He was part of the Hawks staff that coached the 2015 NBA All-Star game.

Lee played collegiately at Bucknell and was the 2006 Patriot League Player of the Year. He ranks 25th on the school’s all-time scoring list. In 2015, Lee was named to the Patriot League’s 25th Anniversary team. He played professionally in Israel, Belgium and Germany before joining the Hawks coaching staff under Budenholzer.
