The Hawks have committed to play in the Las Vegas Summer League again this year.

There has been some movement by NBA teams regarding their participation in summer tournaments for their draft picks and developing players this year. The Hawks have elected to return to the mid-July event.

The Jazz will host a summer league event for the first time since 2008 with the Celtics, 76ers and Spurs joining them July 6-9. The Hornets and Clippers have switched from Las Vegas to the Orlando Pro Summer League event in early July.

The Las Vegas Summer League had 23 NBA teams and an NBA Development League participant last year. It changed its format to feature three preliminary-round games followed by a seeded playoff tournament culminating in an overall champion. Teams played a minimum of five and as many as eight games.

There is some concern among teams that the new format results in too many games.

Lamar Patterson, a 2014 second-round draft pick, will play again this year. Fellow second-rounder Edy Tavares will likely play. Both are currently playing overseas.
